Australian Devine Adventure

We are off to Brisbane in less than a month. Well, not quite the full 'we' as Hannah is going to do aikido in Hombu Dojo in Tokyo for a week before joining Patrick and the boys in Brisbane. We've sorted out where we are going to stay in Brisbane - a lovely looking farmhouse on the Western, bush-side of Brisbane.
This is a 3-month trip. The boys may go to school in Australia but they are not that keen so it may not happen! Oscar is at the end of year 6 so he has stats in a few weeks and when they are over he might as well just enjoy the time until he goes to secondary school in September. Alfie is in year 8 and his teachers think going to Australia is a 'wonderful opportunity'. Although his school is keen on making links with a school in Brisbane - the schools are different there and whereas Alfie is in year 2 of secondary school, he will be in the final year of primary school in Brisbane so there doesn't seem much point in linking his secondary with a primary!! Clearly I'm looking for reasons not to try too hard to sort out schooling for them. We need as much time as possible to explore the bush, the city and of course, the wonderful Queensland coastline!

  1. go to the http://www.mossmangorge.com.au

The guy who gave us the dreamtime walk told us that his "uncle" gave a talk every turesday in a fancy hotel outside Cairns at 7.30. We arrived and it was over, it was at 6.30! the hotel was very welcoming and wouldn't have minded us being there.

you need to hire a car in Cairns, as there are not so many places outside Cairns to hire cars at. we hated all those organised tour leaflet and even in the tourist info in Cairns we could get so little info from them about "doing it alone".. very frustrating. We just tooka car and went to the Daintree. the road ends at Cape trib. Then you need a 4 x 4. we didn't go further. THERE are crocs, salt water and fresh.

I know hannah will love to know about blue pools . I can write to her about that on a mail.. we meet a cassowary early one morning in a blue pool. very specatular! love, maria
